Transfer Box Plugs
First time replacing the oils and noticed on tightening they seem to go in forever without much force. Should these plugs get tighter the further they go in? Also should they go to just flush with casing, I am afraid mine are going in too far!

May be a sign of it being previously over tightened, which is why the WSM states specific torque settings.
Equally, experienced hands know the correct torque close enough to nip up to where it should be and quickly and appropriately and comes with experience. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

The plugs on the transfer box are 1/2 inch square, looks like they had a white thread lock added. Any comments on how far they should go?

Sorry I was thinking of the gearbox my mistake.

It’s probably not thread lock the white stuff, but remains of PTFE tape for sealing. (I use that).

30NM torque for filler and drain plug.
(Remove filler first).

Qty 2.4L of transfer box oil.
You can use GL4 or GL5 in the transfer box, gearbox must be GL4.
Diffs GL5.

You only need one or two winds of PTFE tape in the direction of the thread, on the clean threads, if you don’t use some you might have some weep once filled.

A little wire brush is ideal to gently clean the plug threads.

Hope that helps. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§
